                             Welcome Teachers!

If your curriculum involved students having to play detective to uncover a secret code, participate in sword fights, act out a scene where defiant teens risked it all for love, or watch a laugh out loud comedy with live actors inside their classroom, you’d be sure to have some eagerly engaged students ready to learn!

As Education Director for The Shakespeare Project of Chicago, my goal is to empower and enrich the hearts and minds of students by unlocking the mystery of Shakespeare and releasing its magic before their eyes.  Through our unique approach, we show kids that things relevant to his time are not so different from the things they think and feel themselves.  We guide students to a place of ownership vs. alienation when it comes to tackling the language and embracing the world of Shakespeare.  If you would like more information, please contact me at: Melissa@Shakespeareprojectchicago.org.

Interactive Workshops

Our education workshops are interactive and accessible with the goal of making the students’ first experiences with Shakespeare positive ones.  Equity actors with The Shakespeare Project of Chicago will come to your classroom and help bring whatever play you are studying to life.  The act of discovering meaning within the plays is challenging, rewarding and empowering for the students.

Workshops can be structured around a particular play, or can focus on specialties like vocal technique, Shakespeare’s language or even fight choreography.

Please contact Education Director Melissa Carlson for ways to customize a workshop or residency to help your students grow with Shakespeare.
