Founded May 7, 1995, The Shakespeare
Project of Chicago was established as a vehicle to enable professional
actors (members of Actors’ Equity Association) in Chicago to explore
the complete works of William Shakespeare and other great dramatists,
while working in the company of other actors with like experience and
interest levels. In the process of bringing this founding concept to
life, we have grown into our larger purpose. This includes the
development and performance of readings, workshops, productions and
other educational presentations which are free or easily affordable to
the public and that – with emphasis on the language of the plays and
skill of the actors (rather than extravagant production values) -
challenge, stimulate, educate, enrich and entertain audiences of all
ages and backgrounds. The Shakespeare Project of Chicago is dedicated
to promoting and maintaining a spirit of compassion and
nurturance towards artists and the communities we serve.
