Chicago announces the second play of its Fourteenth Season of free

On Saturday, October 25, 2008 a morning performance begins at 10 a.m. at The Newberry Library, 60 West Walton Street in Chicago, Illinois; an afternoon performance begins and at 2 p.m. at The Wilmette Public Library, corner of Park and Wilmette Avenue in Wilmette, Illinois. On Sunday, October 26, 2008 the performance will be at 2 p.m. at the Highland Park Public Library, 494 Laurel Avenue, Highland Park, Illinois. “I have lived and now I know the truth of all of mankind. There is only evil. Indifference and evil.” A revenge tale of epic proportions, told in under an hour. Artistic Director Jeff Christian, who has directed his adaptations of Shakespeare, Dickens, Ibsen, Moliere, Goethe and Marlowe for the company, stages this irreverent retelling of the classic Greek tragedy. As Medea and Jason, Lesley Bevan and Sean Cooper (a real-life married couple) lead an all-Equity cast that also features Tiffany Scott and Todd Hissong. This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency. The Shakespeare Project of Chicago has been providing free performances of the works of William Shakespeare and other great dramatists to Chicago area audiences since 1995. Their presentations maintain an artistic emphasis on the language of the plays and skill of the professional actors, all of whom are members of Actors' Equity Association. The company's educational program, 50 Minute Shakespeare, brings The World in Words to schoolrooms through 50 minute adaptations of William Shakespeare's plays. Currently scheduling performances for the 2008-09 school year are Hamlet and Macbeth. Location maps and further information are available at www.shakespeareprojectchicago.org and by calling The Shakespeare Project office at (773) 334-8771.
